3.What effect did Reconstruction have on former slaves? Were they better off after Reconstruction than they were before the Civil War?
The reconstruction had effects on the south beacuse it was granting them amnesty. It was replacing all loyal rules in the south and Lincoln was doing partons to all.One effect that it had on the south was that the republicans were angry because the conferderate members were allowed to stay in the United States congress. They also had the three amendments which ended slavery, due process which meant that they had rights and security of freed people, and the right to vote no matter the race, color,or previous condition of servitude, but expect gender. And I personally think that they were better off after the Recontruction because they did not have as much rights as they had before.
